What is a Day at Take My Word For It Camp Like?

Our camp takes place at Tehiyah Day School in El Cerrito. A map and
contact info will be provided when you register.

Camp starts at 9:00 a.m. with a check-in. During that time we review work we did the previous day, current goings-on in our lives and any new "a-ha" moments about creativity.

9:30 - 11:00 Creative Book Arts: Campers work with artist Alice Armstrong to create one-of-a-kind handmade books. Some projects will be completed on one three hour session, others will take two three hour sessions to complete. All materials to create books are provided and campers keep all of their creations.

11:00 - 11:15 Snack (provided by Take My Word For It)

11:15 - 12:30 Book Arts continued

12:30 - 1:15 Lunch (girls bring their own bag lunch)

1:15 - 2:00 Outdoor activity. Tehiyah Day School is located on a beautiful campus where the girls can let off some steam.

2:00 – 2:30 Creative Writing! Free write exercises, to loosen up the
writing muscles and get the creative juices flowing.

2:30-3:00 Word of the Day: Each day at "Take My Word For It" Camp writers will be given a word of the day. The words are intentionally provocative, compelling and offer writers lots of jumping off places into writing.

3:00 – 3:45 Magic Writer’s Cape ( A surprise activity that will be
revealed at the beginning of each session.)

3:45 – 4:45 Group project: Together the girls will decide upon a
collaborative writing project that they will spend an hour working on
each day. It might be a mini-graphic novel, a short story, a series of
poems or a mystery. The idea is for the girls to select a form, and
determine a method of collaborating to create a finished piece by the end of the session.

4:45 – 5:00 Tea Time: The end of the day, time to relax and have tea and something sweet.

SESSION SCHEDULE
Camp sessions are two weeks in length.

Session A     June 23 - July 3 (no camp July 4)
Session B     July 7 - July 18
Session C     July 21- Aug. 1
